Biographical Information

"Ian Cleland is the currently Chief Executive of The Ormiston Academies Trust, a not-for-profit organisation which provides services, products and programmes to help schools realise their full potential, assisting them with marketing, HR, finance and ICT; to improve children’s levels of wellbeing and attainment and make sure they get the best out of their school experience. He plans to support more academies as an approved sponsor in the near future. Ian will be leaving The Ormiston Trust on the 31 March 2012 to setup as an academy sponsor in his own right. He recently established the Academy Transformation Trust following government approval."[1]

"Since 1999 he has been a consultant for the Department for Education (DfE) and is currently contributing to the academy strategy. From 1999-2001 he was a Senior Consultant for KPMG in the intervention strategy for failing local education authorities.

"Ian has worked at consultant and management level on a number of important regeneration schemes where his work has been recognised nationally in terms of both strategy and impact. He was previously a member of the National Council for ASPECT and currently serves on a number of national committees. From 1996 to 2006 Ian made a significant contribution to the development of Prospects Learning Services as its director of strategy moving the business from its inception to a major education company providing one of the five Regional Inspection Services for Ofsted." [2]
