Background on Plant
The 300 to 330 MW coal-fired power plant was proposed to be built in Dukagjin by the US-Canadian Corporation EmberClear Corp. Plans include a new coal mine. Construction on the plant was scheduled to begin in spring 2013, but as of July 2014 there were no reports stating that construction had actually begun.[1] In December 2012 the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo stated that EmberClear "is considering investing 700 euro ($912.5 million) in a new energy production capacity in Kosovo.[2] A March 2014 report announcing EmberClear's second quarter 2014 results described EmberClear as "an energy developer focused on clean energy projects in the United States" and did not contain any mention of Kosovo.[3] Based on the lack of follow-up to earlier reports of imminent construction, it appears that the project has been put on hold (i.e. shelved) or cancelled.
