Jeffrey Azarva "is a former research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he researched and wrote on Arab politics, with a focus on Egyptian society. In addition, he contributed to the Middle Eastern Outlook series and managed the Institute's "Dissent and Reform in the Arab World" conference series, co-editing the report Dissent and Reform in the Arab World: Empowering Democrats.

"Jeff has served as a strategic communications adviser to the Multi-National Force-Iraq detention command (Task Force 134) in Baghdad. In this role, he served as the chief speechwriter to the Task Force 134 command and translated and monitored Arab media coverage of coalition detention. He has also lectured U.S. military personnel deploying to Iraq and the Middle East on U.S. detainee operations in Iraq and Egyptian politics and society.
