Biographical Information
"John Barrett was the Member of the UK Parliament , representing Edinburgh in Scotland. He retired from the House of Commons in May 2010. Before becoming an MP he was a company director and an elected Councillor in the City of Edinburgh. At Westminster , he was co-founder of the Parliamentary All- Party Group for Microfinance. He is currently on the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Microfinance Advisory Board and the Edinburgh International Film Festival Council.
"In Parliament, he was the Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister of State for International Development. He also served for seven years on the International Development Select Committee , which scrutinised the budget and work of the Department of International Development. He has evaluated a wide range of Microfinance and Development projects throughout Africa and South Asia. John is the President of the Scottish Liberal Club, lives in Edinburgh and is married to a well known wildlife artist."[1]
He is married to Carol Barrett.
