Judith Opert Sandler
Judith Opert Sandler "is an Education Development Center vice president and the director of CSE. Since coming to EDC in 1987, Judith has served as the managing director of EDC’s science education projects. CSE currently has 34 staff working on 20 projects that represent four strands of work: instructional materials development for preK through high school; professional development and technical assistance focused on science reform efforts of urban and rural school districts nationwide; research and evaluation of science and education programs; and initiatives targeting building of science careers. In addition to her EDC corporate responsibilities and management of CSE, Judith is the principal investigator of several ongoing National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported projects including the EDC K–12 Science Curriculum Dissemination Center (dissemination and technical assistance support to over 500 small, rural, and isolated school districts nationwide) and the USP Technical Support Project (technical assistance to school district leaders of 33 urban districts).
"She was the director for Insights: An Elementary Hands-on Inquiry Science Curriculum and Insights in Biology, both published by Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company, Dubuque, Iowa. Judith is co-editor of Implementing Science Education Reform: Are We Making an Impact?, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), 1998, and she recently authored Lest Science Be Left Behind, a Commentary in Education Week, Vol. XXII, No. 29.
"Prior to coming to EDC, Judi was the development director and the director for school services for 15 years at the Education Collaborative for Greater Boston, Inc., a consortium of 25 Greater Boston school districts. She has been an associate in education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a founding board member of the Principals Center at Harvard University, a member of the National Teacher Corps, an educational policy fellow of the Institute of Educational Leadership, and is currently a board member of Human Rights Education Associates, Inc."
