Education Development Center, Inc. was founded in 1958 and is an international, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with more than 325 projects in 50 countries "dedicated to enhancing learning, promoting health, and fostering a deeper understanding of the world." [1]

From 1981 to 2006, Janet Whitla served as EDC's president and chief executive officer. Whitla was succeeded by Luther Luedtke in April, 2006. [2]
