Biographical Information
"Karen became the Chief Executive of Phoenix Futures in 2007. Phoenix Futures delivers recovery services for people with problematic drug and alcohol use. It operates in prison and community settings across England and Scotland. Phoenix Futures’ unique approach is informed by its origins as a self help organisation and is rooted in its commitment to empowering people with problematic substance misuses to take control of their own recovery. This is a principle that can be evidenced through all of their interventions whether aimed at reducing harm or achieving abstinence. Karen believes that organisations that deliver charitable aims have a responsibility to demonstrate the contribution they make to society as a whole and should achieve the highest standards of efficiency and effectiveness as any other sector. Karen is very proud of the work that Phoenix does, last year 737 people achieved long term recovery through accessing Phoenix services and many more took those first important steps through their recovery journey. Before joining Phoenix Karen worked within the housing sector for supported and general needs housing organisations. She has an Msc in Housing from London School of Economics and a BA Honours in History from Stirling University and lives with her husband and son in London. Karen is passionate about working with people to realise their full potential and is continually inspired by the commitment and drive of her staff and those that use recovery services." [1]
