Laurie S. Wiseberg

Laurie S. Wiseberg is the former "Executive Director and cofounder Human Rights Internet, an international human rights network and documentation centre in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Wiseberg was educated at McGill University, the University of London, and UCLA. She has taught political science at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, the University of Wales in Swansea, and the University of Illinois, Chicago, and is currently an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa. Dr. Wiseberg has undertaken consultancies for many United Nations agencies, including the UN Centre for Human Rights, UNICEF, UNESCO, WHO, and UNITAR, and for the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. She has served as an advisor to the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (The Gambia); is a member of the International Human Rights Council of the Carter Center in Atlanta; and serves on the boards of many non-governmental human rights organizations. She has published widely, especially on the role of human rights NGOs in the protection and promotion of human rights."
