Linda Upmeyer is a member of Iowa House of Representatives. She is the Republican House Minority Whip and has represented District 12 since 2002.[1] Her current committee assignments include Administration and Rules, Economic Growth, Human Resources, and Natural Resources. She has also been assigned to the Leadership Council and International Relations committees.[2]

Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council

As of 2011, Rep. Upmeyer was the former chair and a current member of the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) Health and Human Services Task Force, and on the ALEC Board of Directors.[3] In 2010, she was a recipient of ALEC's "State Legislator of the Year Award." In August 2011, she spoke on "Health Insurance Exchanges: States in Charge!" at ALEC's 2011 Annual Meeting.[2]

About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. Other Ties

Upmeyer is on the Executive Committee of the Midwest Council of State Governments, a regional division of the Council of State Governments, an association of state officials serving all three branches of government (as opposed to ALEC's one).[2][4] "She is a former trustee for North Iowa Area Community College and a former board member of both the National and Iowa Association of Community College Trustees."[2]
