Background
An open-cast mine at the Lom Lignite coal field is being proposed by Enemona, which has a permit issued by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers for coal prospecting and exploration in the area of Momin Brod, where the Lom Lignite field is located. More than 14% of the Bulgarian lignite deposits are concentrated at the location. According to the company, "The extracted coal could enable a Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 400 - 600 MW to operate for a period of 60 years."[1]
Enemona said it had chosen a consultant for the Lom lignite project in 2009,[2] but the company was reportedly seeking a buyer for the project in 2011.[3]
The project is not listed in the company's 2013 investor bulletin, and appears to have been abandoned.[4]
