Prior to serving in the cabinet, Martin represented the 16th District of Illinois in the House of Representatives from 1981 to 1991 where she was a member of the House Rules Committee, and the Committee on Public Works and Transportation." "From 1991 to 1993, Lynn Martin served as Secretary of Labor under President George H.W. Bush. Before joining the Bush administration, Martin represented Illinois' 16th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Today, she is an advisor to the accounting firm Deloitte & Touche, and chairs its Council on the Advancement of Women." [2]
