Mary E. Peters

Mary E. Peters, of Arizona, was nominated September 5, 2006, by President George W. Bush to replace Norman Y. Mineta as Secretary of Transportation. The White House released a fact sheet on Peters in conjunction with her nomination.

On October 2, 2006, Bush announced his intention to appoint Peters as a Member of the Reform Board (AMTRAK) for a five-year term. [1]

Peters served as the 15th Federal Highway Administrator, within the U.S. Department of Transportation, from October 2, 2001 to July 29, 2005. [2] Peters reportedly stepped down to "return to Phoenix, AZ, to be with family." [3] Peters was Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation when she was nominated as FHWA Administrator. [4] Previously, Peters was National Director for Transportation Policy and Consulting, HDR Inc. [5]
