MasterCard Incorporated is the second largest payment system in the U.S. (after Visa). MasterCard serves nearly 25,000 member financial institutions worldwide and provides services in more than 210 countries and territories. It markets the MasterCard credit and debit cards and Maestro debit cards but does not actually issue the credit. It also operates the Cirrus ATM network. Competitors are Visa, American Express, and Discover. In 2006, revenues were US$3.3 billion with profits of US$50 million. [1]
