Middlemount mine is a coal mine project being developed by Middlemount Coal Pty Ltd, an incorporated Joint Venture between Macarthur Coal Ltd (70%) and the Noble Group Ltd (30%). The company states that mining the initial target is for 1.8Mtpa run of mine production in the 2010 calendar year.[1] The project is located 6 kilometres south-west of Middlemount in the Bowen Basin in Queensland.
The project is currently under construction and scheduled to be commissioned in 2011. The project will producer 1.8 million tonnes of coking coal and cost $70m to construct. The project will employ 160 people during construction and 80 when operating.[2]

Background
Macarthur Coal completed the purchase of the Middlemount project on 15 January 2008. On its website Macarthur Coal states that coal mining commenced in the bulk sample pit in October 2008 with the mining lease granted in September 2009.[1]
