Background
Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port consists of a "dual submerged turret-loading buoy system and an approximately 16-mile pipeline connecting to the existing subsea HubLine pipeline operated by Algonquin Gas Transmission." The pipeline is capable of delivering natural gas at a rate of up to 600 MMcf/d.[2]
The terminal is connected to the Northeastern natural gas grid through a pipeline lateral built by Algonquin Gas Transmission.[2] Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port is owned and operated by Excelerate Energy.[3] The Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port was first operational in 2008.[4] The Boston Globe reported in 2013 that the Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port received a few shipments during its first years of operations, but has sat idle since 2010.[5] Thus, its current operation status is unclear.
