According to its website, OKD is the only producer of hard coal (bituminous coal) in the Czech Republic. Its coal is mined in the southern part of the Upper-Silesian coal basin – in the Ostrava-Karviná district.[1]

Coal mines
As of 2012, OKD reports having four active coal mines with an annual production of 11 megatonnes.[2]
In 2008 OKD merged its CSA and Lazy Mines into one mine known as the Karvina coal mine, which it planned would produce approximately 12.5 million metric tons per year.[3]
