Orly Taitz is a California attorney-dentist who is a driving force behind the Obama birth conspiracy movement. Members of this movement believe that President Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and he is thus ineligible to be President and should be removed from office. Adherents to the movement are being referred to in the media as "birthers" and the movement the "Birther movement."
Taitz likens President Obama's national organization of young supporters to the way the Soviet Union used children as slave laborers.
Taitz believs Obama does not have a legitimate, long-form birth certificate that proves that he was born in Hawaii. She argues that if a candidate lacks proper documentation of being a natural-born citizen, the candidate should be declared ineligible to run.
Unable to gain credence from public officials for her belief that Obama was ineligible to run for president, Taitz began writing letters to every newspaper she could find, trying to convince them there were flaws in Obama's vetting process.
She initiated a lawsuit on the matter, and attempted to file a case reflecting these beliefs at the Supreme Court, but the Court denied it. Taitz has persisted in her efforts to push the question, however, and the movement is gaining a following among some citizens and some Republican legislators.
Biography
Taitz was born and raised in Kishinev (also spelled Chisinau), the capital of the Republic of Moldova, a country in Eastern Europe that was formerly part of the Soviet Union. In 1981, when she was 21, her uncle escaped the Soviet Union and went to Israel. He sent her family papers that allowed them to join him there due to their familial relationship. She attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and became a practicing dentist in Israel. She met her husband, a California, in 1987, in Israel. She now has two separate dental offices in Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.[1]
