Background
Venture Global Plaquemines LNG Terminal is a proposed LNG terminal in Louisiana, United States.[1] The 632-acre site is located on the Mississippi River. The project received Department of Energy authorization to export LNG to Free Trade Agreement nations.[2] Construction is expected to begin in 2018.The company is also proposing the construction of 2 natural gas pipelines to connect existing pipelines to the site.[3]
As of June 2019, construction had not begun on the terminal. The company is expected to receive a final order by August 1, 2019 from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granting it permission build the liquefied natural gas terminal. But in June of 2019, the company struck a deal with PGNiG to buy 2.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas from the yet-to-be-built Plaquemines terminal, up from 1 million in an earlier agreement, suggesting that the project is still proceeding.[4]
