Background

The Pomeranian pipeline provides crude oil shipments from Depot in Płock with the Handling Depot in Gdańsk. The pipeline is used to transport Russian crude oil to the Gdańsk refinery, owned by the LOTOS Group S.A., or for export via Naftoport.

The Pomeranian pipeline can transport crude oil in two directions. From Gdańsk to Płock, it offers a capacity of about 30 million tons of crude oil per year, whereas from Płock to Gdańsk its capacity approaches 27 million tons per year.

The Pomeranian pipeline began construction in 1973 and was completed in 1975.

Expansion

On 14 October 2013, the European Commission approved the PERN Pomeranian Cluster project as a “Project of common interest" (PCI). As of October 2017, the Pomeranian pipeline expansion was preparing a pre-feasibility study, with an expected completion date by the end of 2017.
