Background
The Pomeranian pipeline provides crude oil shipments from Depot in Płock with the Handling Depot in Gdańsk.[1] The pipeline is used to transport Russian crude oil to the Gdańsk refinery, owned by the LOTOS Group S.A., or for export via Naftoport.[1]
The Pomeranian pipeline can transport crude oil in two directions. From Gdańsk to Płock, it offers a capacity of about 30 million tons of crude oil per year, whereas from Płock to Gdańsk its capacity approaches 27 million tons per year.[1]
The Pomeranian pipeline began construction in 1973 and was completed in 1975.[2]
Expansion
On 14 October 2013, the European Commission approved the PERN Pomeranian Cluster project as a “Project of common interest" (PCI).[3] As of October 2017, the Pomeranian pipeline expansion was preparing a pre-feasibility study, with an expected completion date by the end of 2017.[3]
