Location
The port is located in the middle of West coastline of Hainan Province.
Background
Basuo Port is considered to be the most important sea trade portal in Hainan Province. The port is under Dongfang County’s control. It has 6 berths for vessels of 10,000 dwt and 2 berths for vessels of 1,000 dwt and has become one of the country's deepwater ports. It has been opened to navigation to and established trade contacts with many large ports in China and ports in more than 20 countries and regions.[1]
The main export cargoes are iron ore, iron, steel, cement, timber and local goods. Imports include coal, coke, grain and general cargoes.[2]
Huaneng Power Plant Coal Terminal
On November 12, 2014, the Chinese bulk carrier Shi Dai 6 ran aground in the Port of Basuo while approaching the Huaneng Power Plant Coal Terminal. The map below shows the location of the power plant, which is several km to the south of the Basuo Port and has its own separate coal terminal.[3]
