The port is situated in the northeast of Beihai Gulf in the South China Sea and at the tip of Beihai Peninsula.

Background
Port of Beihai consists of an old port area and a new port area and has nine productive berths.[1] The port is equipped to handle heavy bulk cargoes, especially iron ore and coal.[2]
According to an article in Coal Age, the port of Beihai is used as an import terminal for coal arriving from northern China:[3]
- "Export terminals used for China-produced coals include Qinhuangdao, Huanghua, Rizhao, Tianjin, Qingdao, Lianyungang and Caofeidian.
- "Import terminals used for arbitrage include Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shantou and Beihai ports."
