Background

Berths 19-22 are intended for handling bulk cargoes including iron ore, coal, and coke. Operation capacity totals 5.4 million tonnes a year. Berths 16-18 and 23-26 handle bulk and general cargoes including coal. The port has handling capacity of three million tonnes of coal and coke a day, or about 1 million tonnes.

The port is designed for handling river barges and a number of small berths (up to 200 meters in length). Russian coal producer SUEK AG exports about 350,000 tonnes of coal annually through the port to Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia.
