Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council
Spies is also on the corporate ("Private Enterprise") board of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) as of 2011.[2] In August 2011, he was given ALEC's 2011 Private Sector Member of the Year Award.[3]

ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that.
