Biography
Dr. Davis attended the University Of Chicago, Pritzker School Of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1983. Dr. Davis is board certified in Preventive Medicine (Public Health/General Preventive Medicine). He has had a distinguished academic, clinical, and public service career in preventive medicine, epidemiology and public health and has written extensively on numerous issues relevant to smoking and health. Dr. Davis is currently Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Davis has served as a consultant to the U.S. Surgeon General and as an editor of Surgeon General's reports on smoking and health. He is the former Chief Medical Officer of the Michigan Department of Public Health, and was Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office on Smoking and Health from 1987 to 1991. Dr. Davis completed the Epidemic Intelligence Service program and the preventive medicine residency program at the Centers for Disease Control. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, and has received many awards and honors, including the Surgeon General's Medallion, the American Public Health Association's Jay S. Drotman Memorial Award, the American College of Preventive Medicine's Distinguished Service Award, the World Health Organization's World No-Tobacco Day medal and award, and the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco's John Slade Award. Dr. Davis was the founding editor of the journal Tobacco Control, launched by the British Medical Association in March of 1992.
