{{#badges: FrackSwarm|Navbar-fracking}} Saudi Arabia launched a hydraulic fracturing initiative in 2011, aiming to direct domestic gas toward electricity production and free up more oil for export. Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi estimates there is 600 trillion cubic feet of recoverable shale gas in the country, although experts have pointed out that finding water for fracking will be a challenge for the dry Middle Eastern nation. As of 2013 the country is planning a 1,000 megawatt power plant, with the gas supplied by state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco.[1]
