Sentebale
The idea for a charity devoted to the children of Lesotho was formulated by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso "in 2004 during Prince Harry's gap year visit there. This was given a massive kick-start by the amazing public response to the film “The Forgotten Kingdom”.
"After the film was shown on ITN at the end of 2004, £600,000 was raised from tens of thousands of donations that came from all over the world. A further £500,000 was raised from the sale of the film around the world.
"In the meantime, Prince Harry had begun army officer training at Sandhurst, so the British Red Cross agreed to administer the money in Lesotho on behalf of the Princes as a separate Lesotho Fund.
"Over the next 18 months the British Red Cross Lesotho Fund supported 18 different community organisations whilst a consultancy study was carried out to consider the best way of fulfilling the Princes' vision.
"In April 2006 the British Red Cross Lesotho fund was wound up when the Princes launched Sentebale as a new charity and began the planning necessary to set up headquarters in Lesotho."[1]
- Cathy Ferrier was appointed as Sentebale’s Chief Executive Office with effect from 9th March 2012.
