Background

Shanghai Yangshan LNG Terminal is a 3 mtpa LNG import terminal in Shanghai, China.[1]

Phase I construction of Shanghai LNG Terminal includes three 165,000 cubic meter storage tanks, a special LNG jetty that can anchor ships up to 200,000m³ and the associated regasification and sea-bed gas pipelines to link to the Shanghai gas distribution network. LNG imports at the site began in 2009 with projected receiving capacity of 3 mpta.[2] Approval for the construction of two additional storage tanks was received in 2016.[3]

One worker was killed and fifteen workers were injured in an explosion during equipment testing while the terminal was under construction in 2009.[4]
