Coal terminal
The Shipyard River Terminal at the Port of Charleston has been a coal import terminal; the terminal operator is now considering the addition of coal export capability at its existing bulk handling facility.[2][3]
Shipyard River Terminal previously exported coal but the equipment was removed shortly after Kinder Morgan bought the terminal in 1998 from Zeigler Coal Holding Co. for US$35 million. Kinder would like to spend US$200 million to boost capacity at the terminal to 8 million tonnes a year from 2.5 million, but was waiting for a dedicated buyer.[4][5]
As of March 2018 the capacity at the terminal is still reported to be 2.5 mtpa.[6]
