Background

The South Tunisia Development Project (or Nawara Development Project) is aimed at developing the Nawara gas field in southern Tunisia. Part of the project is the construction of a 24-inch, 370-kilometer gas pipeline from the Nawara field to the port city of Gabès.

Construction on the pipeline began in 2015. In October 2018 the Tunisian Minister of Energy stated that the project would become operational in June 2019.
