Southwood

Southwood (which was also known as Southwood Resources) was the name given to a proposal by Forestry Tasmania for a wood-fired power station and an export woodchip mill based on timber from the Southern forests. The initial proposal was to have been based on the redevelopment of the derelict Electrona wharf site. However, following opposition from local residents,[1] the site was moved to near the Huon River on land controlled by Forestry Tasmania.

Following the controversy over the initial project, the site was referred to as the Huon wood centre. The joint venture between Forestry Tasmania and John Holland Development and Investment, which was responsible for the development of the site, is Newood Holdings and its subsidiary, Newood Huon.[2] Newood uses the www.southwoodresources.com domain name.
