Background
In May 2007, Japanese power utility Electricity Power Development Company, or J-POWER, announced plans to build a coal-fired power plant of either 1,200 or 2,400 MW in the highly industrialized Tân Thành district of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province. The district is already home to the 3,900-MW natural gas-fired Phú Mỹ power plant complex.[1] Additional news since then is not available, and it is unclear whether J-POWER is still pursuing the project; it is also unclear whether the project is related to J-POWER's proposed Phu Yen power station.
