Background

The Tejas Gas Pipeline is owned by Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and operated by Kinder Morgan Tejas Pipeline LLC. The pipeline runs from south Texas along the Mexico border and the Texas Gulf Coast to near the Louisiana border and north from the Houston area to east Texas.

Accident

On February 15, 2017, a section of the pipeline exploded in a rural area near Refugio, Texas. Nearby residents said the explosion felt "like an earthquake" or like a "thunder roll that wouldn't end."
