Vancouver Port

Coal

In October 2012, Vancouver Port officials were exchanging emails with Kinder Morgan about a proposal to bringing coal into the port by train and store it in train cars until it was time to load the coal onto ships. Port officials declined the offer. Vancouver is on the Northwest’s coal route: trainloads of coal destined for Asia — about 2 million tonnes a year — pass by the Port of Vancouver on the way to a port in British Columbia. Environmentalists worry more proposals for coal exports out of Vancouver will be proposed.
