Werne Gerstein power station was a 665-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The plant's coal block K was retired in March 2019.[1]

Background on Plant

Werne Gerstein Block K power station is a one-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 665.5 MW. The plant was completed in 1984, and is owned by RWE. The block includes a 112-MW gas turbine in topping configuration.[2]

The coal plant is planned for decommissioning in 2017.[3] In 2015 it was announced that the decommissioning date was postponed to 2019.[4]
