West-East Gas Pipeline 2 is an operating natural gas pipeline.

Location

The pipeline runs from Horgos on China's border with Kazakhstan to Guangzhou in Guangdong province, with eight branch lines connecting to 15 provinces.

Background

Construction of the second West–East Gas Pipeline started on 22 February 2008. The pipeline has a total length of 9,102 km (5,656 mi) and runs from Horgos in northwestern Xinjiang to Guangzhou in Guangdong. Up to Gansu, it is parallel and interconnected with West-East Gas Pipeline 1. In 2013 the pipeline was connected to Dachan Island, off Shenzhen, and from there to the Black Point power station in Hong Kong.

The West-East Gas Pipeline 2 is mainly supplied by the Central Asia-China gas pipeline. The project was developed by China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corp. (CNODC), a joint venture of China National Petroleum Corporation and PetroChina.
