Background
In July 2017 Repsol and Horizon oil were pursuing development of the Western LNG Terminal, which would export gas from several fields in Papua New Guinea.[2] In July 2019 Repsol received notice from Papua New Guinea's Petroleum Minister to cancel its license to extract gas from PDL 10, one of the main fields that would supply the terminal.[3]
With no progress in two years, the project appears to be shelved.
Ownership
In June 2019 Repsol agreed to sell its shares in its PNG assets, which included its approximate 40% interest in the foundation Elevala/Ketu and Stanley fields for the Western LNG project, to China's Balang International.[3] The deal was expected to close in Q4 2019.[3]
