William Grassie

Dr. William Grassie "is founder and executive director, Philadelphia Center for Religion and Science, (PCRS), (www.pc4rs.org), a Philadelphia-based educational center promoting the constructive engagement of science and religion.
"In that capacity, Grasssie also serves as the moderator and editor of Meta Lists on Science and Religion with over 3000 subscribers in 56 different countries the program director for Templeton Foundation Research Lectures (see www.templeton.org/lectures), and the Mid-Atlantic regional director for the CTNS Science and Religion Course Program (see www.ctns.org). Grassie specializes in the philosophy of science and religion. He received his doctorate from Temple University in 1994 and his BA from Middlebury College in 1979. Grassie taught for five years in the Intellectual Heritage Program at Temple University and is now a visiting lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and Swarthmore College.
"Prior to graduate school, Grassie worked for ten years in religious-based social service and political advocacy organizations, working in Washington, D.C.; Jerusalem, Israel; Berlin, Germany; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the recipient of a number of academic awards and grants from the American Friends Service Committee, the Roothbert Fellowship, and the John Templeton Foundation. He is also known as an innovator in the uses of computers in education and publishes on a variety of issues in academic and popular journals. He serves as vice-president for interdisciplinary affairs for the Institute for Religion in an Age of Science (IRAS), which publishes Zygon: Journal of Science and Religion. Grassie is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)." [2]
He is the author of The New Sciences of Religion: Exploring Spirituality from the Outside In and Bottom Up (Palgrave Macmillian, 2010) and a collection of essays, Politics by Other Means: Science and Religion in the 21st Century (Metanexus, 2010). He has also edited two volumes: Advanced Methodologies in the Scientific Study of Religion and Spirituality (Metanexus, 2010) and H+/-Transhumanism and Its Critics (Metanexus, 2010) with Gregory Hansell
