The Winchester South coal project is an undeveloped coal deposit in Queensland in which Rio Tinto has a 75% interest.[1]

In its 2009 Annual report Rio Tinto states that the project had a total resource of 192 million tonnes (of which 17 million tonnes was indicated and 175 million tonnes was inferred). Rio indicated that following a reassessment of the deposit in the 2009 financial year the size of the coal reserves had been upgraded from the previous years estimate of 97 million tonnes.)[1]

A July 2008 presentation to investors identifies the Winchester South project as being commissioned in 2014.[2] Another presentation two months later had the project being commissioned in 2013.[3]

The project is located to the south of Coppabella.[4]
