World Resources Institute and Carbon Capture and Storage

In October 2008, WRI released its guidelines on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), "to develop practical considerations for demonstrating and deploying CCS technologies." The group concluded, "CCS will most likely be needed to achieve the magnitude of CO2 emissions reduction required to stabilize and reduce atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases." The guidelines were developed with input from more than 80 people from academic, government, business and environmentalist backgrounds, and address the impact on ecosystems, "human health and safety," and "underground sources of drinking water and other natural resources"; and promote "market confidence in emission reductions through regulatory clarity and proper GHG accounting" and "cost-effective, timely deployment" of CCS systems.
