Background on Plant
In April 2008, IC İçtaş Enerji (a subsidiary of IC İbrahim Çeçen Investment Holding A.Ş.) applied to build a 600-MW coal-fired power plant in Yumurtalık district.[1]
While this project was mentioned several times in news reports at the time it was proposed,[2] more recent mention of the plant is not available, and IC İçtaş applied to build a 943-MW natural gas-fired power plant in Yumurtalık in January 2012.[3][4]
In October 2014, however, like many others coal plant projects in the area, this one was revived. The EIA application was either issued or reissued, and was opened for public comment.[5] In 2016 the company stated that it would be 1,200 MW[6] but as of April 2018 the prelicense application is shown as 600MW under consideration on the EMRA website.[7]. The second unit appears to be shelved.
