Yves-Andre Istel
Yves-André Istel "is Senior Advisor for Rothschild Inc, having served as Vice Chairman of Rothschild Inc. from 1993 to 2002. He is Co-Chair of The European Institute's Board of Directors.
"Previously, Mr. Istel was Chairman of Wasserstein Perella & Co. International from 1988 to 1992; Co-Chairman and Managing Director of First Boston International Corporation from 1983 to 1888; and Managing Director and member of the Board of Directors of Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb, Inc.
"Mr. Istel has played a key role in numerous transactions including the recent purchase of Niagara Mohawk by the National Grid Group in 2002, and the purchase of United Water by Suez-Lyonnaise des Eaux in 2000. Other significant transactions include the sale of British Telecom's interest in MCI and Joint Venture BT-ATT (1997); the purchase of Loctite by Henkel (1996); sale of Pechiney's Foster-Forbes division to Compagnie Saint-Gobain/Ball Corporation (1995); the purchase of Howmet by The Carlyle Group/Thiokol Corporation (1995); the sale of Yves-Saint Laurent to Elf-Sanofi (1993), a joint venture between Olivetti and Digital Equipment Corporation (1992) and France Telecom's investment in Telefonos de Mexico (1990).
"Mr. Istel was a member of The New York Stock Exchange Advisory Committee on International Capital Markets for many years. He comments on economic issues in such newspapers as Le Monde, Libération, and Le Figaro and has written book reviews for The New York Times and USA Today. He was been an adjunct-professor at New York University, teaching a graduate seminar on the competitiveness of the French economy. Mr. Istel is a graduate of Princeton University.
"Mr. Istel is involved in a number of non-profit institutions. He is Chairman of the Board of the Center for French Civilization and Culture at New York University; Chairman of the Remarque Institute at New York University; Director of the French-American Foundation; Chairman of the Board of Fondation Saint-John Perse. Mr. Istel is an "Officier" in the French Legion of Honor and was also awarded "Officier des Arts et des Lettres." [1]
