Background on Plant
In July 2013, Zorlu Enerji applied to build a 1,220-MW coal-fired power plant in Düzce province. In September 2013, Zorlu announced this project as part of an overall drive to build four new fossil fuel-fired power plants in Turkey (two powered by coal and two by natural gas) with a total capacity of 4,800 MW. The plant would burn imported coal.[1][2][3] The other proposed coal plant, Zorlu Soma power station, was later cancelled in January 2015.[4]
In October 2017 Zorlu Group said it was abandoning the project.[5] As of June 2018, no other investor has announced that it will sponsor the project.
