Background on Plant

Barabanki power station is a 250 MW coal-fired power station proposed by Parekh Aluminex in 2010, under an MoU signed with the Mayawati government of Uttar Pradesh. In June 2012 the MoU was set to expire, but the company was given an eighteen month extension of the requirement to secure a coal linkage.[2][3]

In November 2014 the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission said it had quashed setting up four thermal power plants of over 1700 MW capacity, saying the companies were lagging far behind in completing the projects despite being given two extensions. Projects cancelled included Barabanki.[4]
