Bilhaur Super Thermal Power Plant is a proposed 1320 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The project is proposed to be built near Dhundwa Jamauli, Madara Rai, Ranipur, Uttari and Nadhia Khurd villages in Bilhaur taluk.

Background

The plant is proposed by NTPC to be built near Dhundwa Jamauli, Madara Rai, Ranipur, Uttari and Nadhia Khurd villages in Bilhaur taluk. It has been reported that the project will require 1600 acres of land of which 60% is privately owned with the remainder being government land.It has been reported that the projected coal demand will be approximately 7 million tonnes per annum from the North Karanpura coal Field. It has also been reported that the project will require approximately 40.0 cusecs of water from the Upper Ganga Canal System. It has also been reported that the project received environmental clearance in late July 2011.

In 2013 NTPC said the feasibility report for the project had been approved.

According to the India MoEF website (accessed April 2015), the project applied for environmental clearance in July 2014.

In February 2015, Times of India reported NTPC was still seeking physical possession of land for the project, which "will be given to NTPC shortly," according to the company. The first unit "is likely to become functional by 2022."

As of October 2016, the project is not included in NTPC list of future capacity additions through 2032, and it is not mentioned in the Ministry of Power's July 2016 Broad Status Report. The project appears to be abandoned.
