Gummidipoondi captive power station is a 63-megawatt (MW) captive coal-fired power station in Tamil Nadu, India.

A 360 MW expansion has been proposed.

Background on Plant

Gummidipoondi power station is a coal-based Captive Power Plant of 63 MW capacity at Gummudipoondi taluk. The plant started generating power from November 2012. The coal for the plant is imported from Indonesia and supplied by Coastal Energy Limited. It was originally owned by ARS Metals, but is now owned by Cauvery Power Generation.

Expansion

In September 2014 owner Cauvery Power applied to expand the power station by two units of 180 MW each.

Cauvery Power Generation received a terms of reference (ToR) for unit 2 (180 MW) in 2014. Unit 3 did not receive a Terms of Reference.

With no developments since 2014, plans for the project appear to be abandoned.
