Cockatoo Coal is a Sydney headquartered coal mining company. The company exports metallurgical and thermal coal from the Baralaba mine in the Bowen Basin, Queensland and has interests in a number of other coal projects.[1]

Baralaba mine
The Baralaba mine, which is located near the town of Baralaba in the Bowen Basin in Queensland, produced over 520,000 tonnes of coal in 2009. On its website the company states that it "plans a further 50% rise in output by 2011/12 to ~750,000 tpa. A further, much larger expansion to ~3Mtpa is slated for when new coal transport infrastructure comes online from 2013."[1]
Possible Coal projects
Cockatoo Coal has interests in a number of coal projects including the:[2]
- Wonbindi Project which is located 180 km west of Gladstone. The project, which is currently the subject of a pre-feasibility study, has a notional commissioning date of 2013. It is proposed that the project produce 3 million tonnes per annum of PCI and thermal coal.
- Woori Coal Mine which is located 19 km south of Wandoan. The project, which is the subject of a feasibility study, has a notional commissioning date of 2013. It is estimated that the mine would produce 3-4 million tonnes of thermal coal per annum.
