Dan Bartlett is president and chief executive of the public relations firm Public Strategies, Inc. He joined the firm in November 2007 as a senior strategist. Bartlett "provides counsel to the firm's largest accounts in key industries such as finance, telecommunications and defense. In addition, drawing on his years of foreign policy experience while serving in the White House, he has directed the firm’s international growth, providing advice to leading multi-national firms and global institutions." Bartlett is also an on-air political analyst for CBS News and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas. [1]
On January 5, 2005, President George W. Bush named Bartlett Counselor to the President [1]. Bartlett announced his resignation on June 1, 2007. "Bartlett joins several top Bush administration officials, including Sara Taylor, the White House political director, and deputy national security advisers J.D. Crouch and Meghan O'Sullivan, all of whom departed" in May 2007. [2]
Bartlett was serving as Bush's Director of Communications "[w]hen Bush's valued counselor Karen P. Hughes left the White House, young Bartlett got her office -- and the responsibility for keeping the administration 'on message'." [3]
According to his White House biography, Bartlett oversaw "the White House Press Office, Office of Media Affairs, Communications, Speechwriting, and Global Communications. Prior to that, he was principal deputy to Karen Hughes, Counselor to the President. Before joining the Bush Administration, Dan Bartlett served as a senior spokesman and the Director of Rapid Response for the Bush for President campaign in Austin, Texas. He has served President Bush since 1993, working on both successful campaigns for Governor of Texas. From 1994 to 1998, Bartlett worked in the Governor's Office as Deputy to the Policy Director. During the 1998 re-election campaign, he served as Issues Director. Before joining President Bush, Mr. Bartlett worked for Karl Rove and Associates, an Austin-based political consulting firm. He earned his bachelors degree in political science from the University of Texas at Austin." [4] [5]
