About ALEC |
---|
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. Nolan is also involved with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). He is the co-chair of the High Speed Rail Working Group.[5] In 2005, he served on NCSL’s Federal Issues Committee on Transportation.[6]
Near Involvement in the Bush Administration
In 2000, Nolan was nominated by John Ensign, among others, to a post in the Bush Administration, as the assistant secretary of labor in charge in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, though it never panned out. He first heard of the nomination from an official working with the ALEC[7]
