The Dongamahua power station is a 540-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant located in Chhattisgarh, India. An additional 300 MW (2 x 150 MW) has been proposed at the same location.

Background

According to the Environmental Clearance, the existing power station consists of four 135 MW coal-fired power plants, fueled by coal middling and fines generated during washing at the nearby Gare IV/1 coal mine, located in village Nagarmuda, Janjgir, Tapranga, and Dongamahua, about 50 km from Raigarh. One company source describes the units as 150 MW rather than 135 MW.

Units 1-2 began operating in 2010, and units 3-4 in 2012.

Details of expansion

Environmental clearance for the second phase of the project - two more coal-fired units of 150 MW each - was approved in 2010 and amended in 2012.

However, there is no record that construction has begun, and plans appear to be deferred or abandoned.
