Location
The power station is proposed to be built near Babhani & Dagdaua villages in Dudhi taluk. The map below shows the location of Babhani village but not the exact location of the project.
Background
The power station has been proposed by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. In mid-2010 it was reported that the UPPC was seeking bids to supply power to the grid from private investors. The Dopaha Thermal Power Plant was referred to as one of the projects which bids would be sought for on the basis that the Uttar Pradesh government would be responsible for providing the land, water and coal allocations and ensuring environmental and other approvals for.[1]
The proposed power station would comprise three supercritical 660MW generating units and require 1475 acres of land. It has been reported that the coal requirement for the project would be approximately 9.7 million tonnes per annum and require 60 cusecs of water. Terms of reference for an environmental impact assessment were issued in January 2011.[2]
Project cancelled
In 2014 the project was reported as dropped for "failing to acquire land and environmental clearances." The project's proposed locations fell "in the vicinity of notified Singrauli area, which was under observation because of pollution from the production of 10,000 mw of power in the area." Plants in the area included NTPC’s Vindhyachal project (3260 mw), Shaktinagar project (2000 mw), and Rihand Super Thermal Power project (2000 mw). Also, Sasan Power Ltd has proposed a 4,000 mw ultra-mega power project at Singrauli. According to the environmental ministry, these power plants would have an adverse impact on the environment of the area.[3]
